IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Albert T.
Leguis
March 13, 1950 – January 11, 2024
Albert Thomas Leguis Jr., 73, of Pullman, WA passed away January 11, 2024. Al was born March 13, 1950 in Kingston, PA to Albert & Irene (Yudichak) Leguis. While growing up he often provided care for his father who experienced illness related to his work as a coal miner. Upon graduation from Wyoming Valley West High School in Kingston, he enlisted in the United State Air Force in 1969. He was initially stationed in Little Rock, Arkansas then off to Spokane and later North Dakota. In 1970, Al was deployed to the Vietnam War, based at U-Tapao, Thailand. He was assigned to the 307th Strategic Wing as a pneudraulic systems specialist for the B-52 Stratofortress and KC-135 Stratotankers. Sergeant Leguis received the U.S. Air Force commendation Medal for meritorious service for Veteran's in a foreign war.
In a turn of fate while stationed in Spokane, Al's misdialed number lead to him meeting Helen Ankerson. Bravely both parties agreed to a blind date opportunity. Al and Helen were married in Spokane on Dec. 5, 1970. They were blessed with many opportunities to travel throughout their life together of 53 years. Al and Helen settled in Pullman, WA after he finished his service and raised their family. Al worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years. During his years of employment, he developed lasting relationships with co-workers and customers alike. After retiring from the Post Office, he missed mingling with a wide variety of people so he found an ideal job and happily worked, as needed, as a courtesy driver for Chipman and Taylor Chevrolet. Al enjoyed the outdoor pursuits of camping and fishing as well as gardening in his vegetable/flower garden. But ultimately, as we all know his favorite hobby was the fine art of storytelling.
Al is survived by his wife Helen at their Pullman home; daughter Nancy (Tim) of Medford, OR; son David (Sharon) and 4 grandchildren ( Blake, Drew, Ty, and Tess) all who reside in Tasmania, Australia. He was preceded in death by his parents, his aunt's Margaret, Elizabeth and Adeline and a number of cousins. He also was preceded in death by his bonus parents, Ed and Eileen Ankerson.
The memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Corbeill Funeral Home in Pullman, WA. A reception will follow at the Pullman City Recreation Center, Building B, Room-100. Memorial donations are suggested to the American Legion of Pullman, WA. Online condolences may be sent to www.corbeillfuneralhomes.com.
