Alice M. Hackett, 76, recently of Colfax, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2015 at the Whitman Health & Rehab Center. Services will be held at the Colfax LDS Church at 12:00 Noon on Monday, June 1, 2015 with Bishop Anthony Lundberg presiding. A reception will follow. Alice will be laid to rest in her hometown of Bend, Oregon.
Alice was born on April 27, 1939 in Bend, Oregon to Alva & Violet (Phipps) Hammer. She grew up in Bend and graduated from high school there. She met and married Marvin Hackett and the couple continued to make their home in Bend where they had three children. Alice and Marvin owned and operated a medical courier business for many years before market changes forced its closure. Marvin passed away in 2009 and Alice began to slow down with health problems, moving to Colfax in early 2014 to be closer to her daughter.
She enjoyed horses, crocheting, bowling, genealogy work and traveling when she could. She loved her cat, Sweetiebug, and one of the highlights of Alice's day was when her daughter would bring Sweetiebug to visit in the nursing home. Alice will be truly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter Karen (Kelly) Messinger of Thornton; daughter Kim Hackett-Gibson of Bend; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and her son Robert. Memorial contributions in Alice's honor are suggested to the Whitman County Humane Society or to the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation (www.ucp.org).
Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
