Obituary

Allen A. Anderson, 89, lifelong resident of Colfax, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Henderson House in Colfax. Allen was born on the family farm near Diamond, Washington, October 12, 1924 to Allen and Ruth (Brown) Anderson. He attended schools in Colfax and later as a young man he entered the U.S. Army and served as a merchant marine. After a few years Allen was honorably discharged and returned home to Colfax. He began working as a truck driver for the concrete plant and it wasn't very long before he was introduced to Dorothy Stong through mutual friends. They married in Colfax October 20, 1951 and in 1953 Allen moved his young family to their new home along Almota Road just outside Colfax. Allen has called this place home ever since. He began working in carpentry with Earl Arndt and he was well known around Whitman County for his carpenter skills and also had built several homes in the Colfax area. Allen retired in 1988 from full-time work but he did small jobs and odds and ends for many people for several more years. He liked to work in his wood shop, enjoyed tending his garden and yard and he liked to dig for garnets in Idaho or look for arrowheads down on the river. He also spent much time taking his children and later his grandchildren fishing. At various times Allen had attended the Lutheran church in Colfax. He was a former member of the MOOSE Lodge. His wife Dorothy passed away in 2004. Allen is survived by his three children; Paul, Trina and Tanya all of Colfax; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Edith Allick of Oregon and a brother, John Anderson in California. In addition to his wife he was also preceded in death by a sister, Ada Scott. In accordance with his wishes his body was donated to science and no services are planned at this time. Memorial gifts may be made to the Union Gospel Mission or to Friends of Hospice. On-line condolences may be left at www.bruningfuneralhome.com
