Allen John Foss, 77, of Colfax, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the Henderson House. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 26th at 1:00 p.m. at Selbu Lutheran Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at the Onecho Bible Church. Allen was born June 24, 1936 on the family farm at Maddock, North Dakota to Johnnie and Florence (Skovholt) Foss. He attended school in Hesper and Maddock, North Dakota and graduated from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls, MN in 1954. He was active in 4-H, raising sheep and Hereford cattle. Allen graduated from Concordia College in 1959 and taught high school science for a time. He graduated from the Lutheran Brethren Seminary in Fergus Falls in 1963. He was married to Goldie Stueckle of Dusty, Washington on August 24, 1959 at Selbu Lutheran Church near LaCrosse. Allen was first called to serve the Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church in Aitkin, MN and was ordained into the Christian ministry a year later. He served churches in Aitkin, MN, Bottineau, ND, Ottawa, IL, East Hartland, CT, Everett, WA and Yuma, AZ from 1963 to 2000 before retiring in Everett, WA. He served as President for both Eastern and Western Districts of the Church of the Lutheran Brethren. Allen also served as a board member of the Synods Executive Board and Board of Home Missions. He was the author of two books for Christian Instruction published by Faith & Fellowship Press in Fergus Falls. After retiring in 2000 he served as interim pastor in Marysville and Lynnwood, WA. He also enjoyed wood-working during his retirement years. Allen and Goldie built a home and moved to Colfax in 2011. He is survived by his wife Goldie at their Colfax home; three children, Mark (Joanne) Foss of Glastonbury, CT, Joel (Carri) Foss of Marysville, WA and Deborah (Roland) Fink of Uncasville, CT; 14 grandchildren, Gregory, Timothy, Mandi, Shawna, Rachel, Laura, Sam, Jonathon, Sean, KareeAnne, R.J. III, William, Stephanie and Savannah; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers Don Foss and Maury Foss and 2 sisters, Marilyn Martinson and Rosalie Sorensen as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
