Obituary

Amalia “Molly” Ramirez, longtime Dayton resident, passed away Friday morning, May 22, 2026 at the Providence St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla. She was 98.

The Rosary will be recited Friday morning, June 5th, at 10 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish in Dayton followed by Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Burial will be in the family plot at the Dayton Cemetery.

Amalia was the youngest of nine children born to Roman and Francisca Arevalo Garcia. She was born March 14, 1928 in Seguin, Texas and spent her growing up years in the Rio Grande Valley in the Southern tip of Texas. She married Humberto Ramirez in Edinburg, Texas on September 16, 1963. After a few years they moved to Walla Walla, Washington and then in 1970 to Dayton, Washington when he took a job at The Green Giant Company. Molly was busy as a homemaker and mother and it wasn’t until the kids were in school that she became a Certified Nurse’s Assistant. She worked at the Robinson Nursing Home for many years and retired from there.

In her spare time, she loved to put on yard sales and to go to yard sales. She always had an eye for a bargain. Molly was a devout Catholic and faith was a stable force in her life. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish in Dayton and regularly attended church services. She loved to spend time in her yard and tending her rose gardens. She cooked for everybody and she followed her kids in all their school activities and was a constant presence at the Dayton High School's Boys Basketball team when her son Roy was coaching. Whenever the family would go fishing, she would reluctantly go along as fishing was not her favorite thing to do but to be with her family was what mattered the most as spending time with her family was her favorite activity.

She is survived by her 3 children; Sylvia Schaeffer of Touchet, WA., Humberto Ramirez, Jr., Dayton, and Roel (Kristin) Ramirez also of Dayton; 7 grandchildren; Harlie (Jose) Schaeffer Martinez, Hayden Schaeffer, Cole (Kelsey) Ramirez, Cody Ramirez, Casey Ramirez(Jessica Olson, fiancée') , Cruz (Adriene) Ramirez and Lexie (Lane) Wilkening; 4 great-grandchildren; Calahan, Ozzy, Noa, and R.J. and by her sister, Refugia Maltos of Kennewick, WA. Molly was preceded in death by her husband, Humberto, in 2015; by her son-in-law Robert Schaeffer and by 7 siblings and her parents.

The family suggests memorial gifts in her memory be to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish in Dayton. Corbeill Funeral Home – Dayton is caring for the family. www.corbeillfuneralhomes.com
