Arthur Leroy "Roy" Oliver, 88, of Sagle passed away on November 16, 2013 at Whitman Hospital & Medical Center in Colfax, Washington. Memorial services are planned for the spring of 2014.

Roy was born on January 7, 1925 in Ames, Iowa to Arthur & Leona (Lindsey) Oliver. Roy left high school before graduation at the age of 17 to join the United States Navy. He served his country from 1943-1946 after attending basic training at the Farragut Naval Station in Athol, Idaho. After an honorable discharge, Roy completed his coursework to obtain his full high school diploma.

He met the love of his life, Delia Lorenzi, and the couple married on January 2, 1949 in Superior, Montana. The couple enjoyed almost 65 years of marriage and had four children: Art, Marsha, Ginna and Janna.

Roy was a pioneer in the telephone industry, working for both Western Electric and General Telephone (GTE) for almost 40 years. He began his career as an equipment installer and eventually worked his way up to area manager, overseeing operations in large portions of the northwest.

Roy and Delia were great lovers of outdoor sports including hunting and fishing with family members of all ages. Roy was a great enthusiast of many family table games but was an especially accomplished cribbage player, being fiercely competitive with anyone that challenged his skills. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Lakeside #42 of Sandpoint, Idaho.

Roy is survived by his wife Delia Oliver; children Art, Marsha, Ginna, Janna and spouses; thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; sisters Lila Erwin and Mardel Hawkins; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his parents and older sister Pauleen Berlogar.

Memorial contributions in Roy's honor are suggested to the Shriner's Children's Hospital or the Hutton Settlement Children's Home, both of Spokane.
