Barbara Lee Allan passed away at the age of 86 on January 9th, 2018, in the company of her loving daughter, Robin Allan at Bishop Place in Pullman Washington.
Barbara was born on December 23rd 1931 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Lucille and Roscoe Butler. Her younger brother, Jerry and wife Bette reside in Omaha Nebraska. She attended Thomas Jefferson High in Council Bluffs where she earned a 4.0 GPA and graduated 1st out of 157 students.
While studying at Iowa State University she met and married Robert Emerson Allan. During the time he was away in the Korean war, Barbara delivered their first child, a boy which they named Jeffery Robert. After his return from the war they moved to Manhattan Kansas, so Robert could pursue his graduate and doctorate degrees at Kansas State University. There they had two boys, Patrick Andrew and Scott Butler. In 1957 they moved to Pullman Washington when Robert was offered an outstanding job working with renowned geneticist Orville Vogel. There they had their final child, a daughter, Robin Lee. Barbara and Bob were later divorced.
Barbara returned to college at Washington State University and in 1968 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. She then joined a real estate company in Pullman, selling residential properties. She was awarded Whitman County's Top Realtor two separate years. Many people in Pullman recall that she sold them their home and how great it was to work with her. She always wanted to contribute to making Pullman the best place to live in Washington. She was elected to Pullman City Council in 1975 and served as VP of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce, served on the Mass Transit Citizen Advisory Committee, Comprehensive Health Planning Council and many other committees. After Robin graduated from high school in 1976 Barbara moved to Seattle where she continued her career in real estate. She specialized in selling high-rise condominiums and was a top producer for Albright Realty. In addition she soldunits in the first downtown Seattle high-rise building. She retired in 1998, making her home in Edmonds, Washington. She enjoyed a large group of friends, boating on Puget Sound and played in as many bridge groups as possible. In 2014 due to her declining health she returned to Pullman to be near her son Pat and her daughter Robin. Barbara moved into Bishop Place where she made many friends, was able to play bridge four times per week and was a member of the Community Congregational United Church of Christ. She remained active in the the Democratic National Committee and a devoted member of Delta, Delta, Delta Sorority.
Barbara's eldest son Jeffery died in 2016. She is survived by her brother Jerry and wife Bette, son Patrick and wife Janet, son Scott and wife Teresa, and daughter Robin. In addition grandchildren: Naomi, Jessica, Robert, Brian, Nathan, Heidi, Riley, Quinten and Deagan; plus eleven great grandchildren, two nieces and a nephew. She is remembered for her perseverance, her fierce love of family, her loyalty, generosity and her talent for speaking the truth as she saw it. She loved to travel, going to movies, playing games and adoring her cat, Callie. She enjoyed any opportunity to connect with loved ones over food, wine and a game of Rummy Tile. Many of her fellow residents at Bishop Place would say "She always made me feel so welcome."
Her passing was due in part to a condition known as Advanced Atypical Parkinson's. Her family is comforted to know that she is resting in His presence.
