Barbara T. Cook-Mason, 96, of Spokane passed away peacefully on Sunday April 27 th after suffering a stroke. Committal services with vault inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday May 9, 2014 at the Colfax Cemetery in Colfax, Washington.
Barbara was born in Colfax on January 17, 1918 to Albert & Lucinda Schweiger. She grew up in Colfax and graduated from Colfax High School. She married Bennie Cook on November 25, 1936 and the lived on the family farm near St. John and raised their two children Marilyn and Ron. Barbara was a member of the Wednesday Club, the Wheatland Grange and the Altar Society. She was also a gardener and loved quilting.
After Bennie passed away in 1972 she moved to Spokane where she volunteered at Sacred Heart Medical Center, learned to play golf and enjoyed dancing. Barbara married Chuck Mason and the couple enjoyed golfing, dancing and snow-birding in California.
Barbara is survived by her son Ron (Janice) Cook of Thornton; son-in-law Dick McManus of Cle Elum; brother Louie Schweiger of Richland; sister Dorothy Ray of Liberty Lake as well as six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her precious daughter Marilyn McManus, husbands Bennie Cook and Chuck Mason and her companion Dick Geisa. Memorial contributions in Barbara's honor are suggested to Hospice of Spokane or to the American Cancer Society.
