Obituary

Bernadine K. Seabrandt, 97, passed away on October 21, 2015 at her Pullman home. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pullman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Jeff Core at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 30 also at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Pullman City Cemetery.

Bernadine was born September 5, 1918, to John and Teresa (Bishop) Fulfs in their family home on the breaks of the Snake River, above Lower Granite Dam. She attended St. John's Academy, a boarding school in Colfax, WA. Through the 6th grade, and then transferred to Pullman for 7th & 8th grade.

In the early 30's, her father bought a farm outside of Pullman, and the family moved. She attended Pullman High School from 1933-1937, graduating as co-valedictorian. She attended Washington State College, graduating in 1941, with a BS degree in Medical Technology.

She went on to do an internship at the University of California at Berkeley, and was hired in a research position. In 1954, she returned to WSU to get a Master's degree in Microbiology. In 1955, she was hired in Spokane at Deaconess Hospital as the Chief Microbiologist, a position she held until she retired in 1974.

Bernadine married James Seabrandt in 1954. When she retired, they moved to Bay City, Oregon, where they built a home. They enjoyed traveling, and went around the world twice, once in the Northern Hemisphere, and once in the Southern Hemisphere, visiting many countries. One of the highlights was time spent in Beirut, Lebanon, in the years 1965-67, when her husband taught environmental health at the American University there. He died in 1995.

She lived in Bay City until a year ago, when she moved to Bishop Place in Pullman, WA. While in Bay City, she enjoyed being active in a Bridge group, a Shakespeare Club, and in American Association of University Women, Tillamook Branch, which she was president of from 1978-1980.

Survivors include a son, James Peter Seabrandt, of Coos Bay, Ore., and 2 nieces; Virginia (Martin) Gismervig of Steilacoom, WA. and Robynn (Robert) McKean of North Plains, OR.; and 3 nephews; David (Marti) Fulfs, Jack (Linda) Fulfs and Dan (Lorraine) Fulfs all of Pullman along with their 21 grandchildren and by her sister-in-law Myrtle Fulfs also of Pullman.

Memorial gifts may be made to the WSU School of Veterinary Medicine toward scholarship support, a cause close to her heart or to a charity of donor's choice. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. On-line guest condolences may be left for the family at www.kimballfh.com
