Bessie V. Geier Jensen, 99, passed away early Friday morning, Jan. 31, 2014, at RiverWoods Nursing Care Facility, Lewisburg, PA.
Bessie was born in Shaunavan, Saskatchewan, Canada, on Nov. 30, 1914, a daughter of the late William and Ada (Chronister) Geier. She was married to William "Bill" Jensen on Dec. 30, 1938, who preceded her in death in 1984.
The Jensens moved to Colfax, WA, in 1950, where they went into a partnership with Fred and Eleanor Magnussen. They purchased the IGA Grocery store, meat market and slaughter house. The partnership dissolved and the Jensens purchased the slaughter house and developed the Colfax Meat Packing Plant, a small family business, serving the Whitman County area. Bessie wrapped meat and kept the books for the business until 1968 when they sold the business and retired.
Bessie moved to Lewisburg, PA, in 1997 to be near her daughter.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Dave Lawrence of Lewisburg, PA; one son and daughter-in-law Gordon and Sandy Jensen of Twin Falls, Idaho; 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews throughout the United States and Canada.
Funeral service will be held at the Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and funeral at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery.
