Obituary

Beth Ann Toerne, 67, of Pullman, passed away Sept. 11, 2018 at her Pullman, WA home.  Beth was born August 30, 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland to Diane (Stevenson) Becker and G. Allen Becker.  Beth grew up in Severn, MD, graduating from Glen Burnie High School in 1969.  She attended VPI where she received her Bachelor's degree in 1973 in the field of Fashion Marketing & Accounting.  Following college Beth moved to Pullman and went to work at Tr- State in Moscow for a time, following which she operated Wild Flower Designs with her mother in Moscow.  Beth went to work at WSU as a fiscal specialist and also operated her own businesses and worked for Earl Russell Construction Company.  She retired from WSU following 18 years of service.  Beth married Fred Toerne on Oct. 17, 2007 in Moscow and together have made Pullman home since that time.  She loved to read, especially science fiction and was involved in the Palouse Empire Science Fiction Association and Moscon.  She loved crafting and was skilled in spinning yarn, beading, sewing, and knitting.  She also was an accomplished cook.  Beth enjoyed her family and found great pleasure in spending time together.  She especially loved time spent with her grandchildren and had a great fondness for chocolate.  Beth was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Palouse.  She is survived by her husband Fred at the Pullman home; her son John (Amber) Finkbiner; two sisters Janet Mundell and Sue (Chris) House; her brother John (Jack) Becker and wife Robin and her 6 grandchildren.  Beth was preceded in death by her parents.  An informal gathering will be held at Kimball Funeral Home on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 from 2 to 4 pm.  In lieu of flowers, Beth's wishes were for donations in her memory be made to Planned Parenthood or to Northwest Public Broadcasting.
