Betty Ann (Gillespie) Hatley, 90, lifelong Pullman area resident passed away May 6, 2025 at Regency of Pullman Assisted Living. Betty was born May 9, 1934 in Pullman, WA to Ralph & Edna (McCaw) Gillespie. She grew up on the family farm outside of Pullman and graduated from Pullman High School. Betty attended Washington State University for several years. She married James "Jim" Hatley on September 12, 1953 in Pullman. They made their home in Pullman until returning to the farm. It was during this time that Betty was a devoted wife and mother, raising their daughter and maintaining the home. She later had the opportunity to go to work as a bookkeeper for Myklebust Department Store, which she loved doing. After Myklebust, she went to work at Washington State University as an office assistant until her retirement. Betty was active in Jobs Daughters, Eastern Star and the Ewartsville Grange. She was active with Pullman Child Welfare, and served on their board for many years. Betty was also a member of Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman. She is survived by her husband Jim; her daughter Lael (Randy) Brickey of Pullman; two grandchildren - Jim (Kim) Brickey; Brandy Schmeling and four great grandchildren - Carlee, Aubree, Sadie & Mindie. A graveside service will be planned for a later date at the Pullman City Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Corbeill Funeral Home, Pullman, WA. The family suggests memorial donations in Betty's name to the Pullman Fire Department or the Shriners Children's Hospital.
