Betty Ann Rutherford, 93, of Pullman passed away January 17, 2018 at Bishop Place Retirement Community in Pullman, WA. Betty was born May 7, 1924 in Imnaha, Oregon to Elmer & Myrle (Ownbey) Warnock. She was raised on the family cattle ranch on the Imnaha River. In 1942, she graduated from high school in Enterprise, OR. Following graduation, Betty attended Oregon State College. On Sept. 9, 1944 she married her high school sweetheart, Bruce Rutherford, in Carlsbad, New Mexico where he was stationed with the Army Air Corp. When Bruce was discharged from the service they moved to Pullman, WA. Bruce and Betty were married for 63 years.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and caregiver to Bruce. She belonged to the Pullman Ladies Golf Club, PEO Chapter S, and the Kapa Delta Sorority as well as the Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Pullman where she volunteered in the church's Thrift Shop. She also volunteered with the Pullman Hospital Auxiliary. Some of her hobbies were quilting, golfing, and playing bridge. She also was a wonderful cook and a gracious hostess.
Betty is survived by her three children John (Roberta) of Pullman; Gregory (Laura) of Chewelah, WA; Susan (Paul) Muller of Richland, WA; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. In addition to her husband, Bruce, she was preceded in death by her three brothers.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 27 in the Community Room at Bishop Place.
Memorial donations are suggested to Friends of Hospice or Pullman Regional Hospital. Kimball Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
