Obituary

Lifetime area resident Beverly M. Cook, 93, passed away on August 25, 2013 at Pullman Regional Hospital after a brief illness. The memorial service will be held on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at 1 PM in the Independent Living Social Hall at Bishop Place Retirement Center in Pullman, Washington.

She was born Beverly Medora Kincaid on February 1, 1920 to Horace "Hod" and Alto (King) Kincaid at Colfax, Washington and grew up on the family chicken ranch, Fresh Laid Farms. After graduating from Colfax High School in 1938, Beverly attended Washington State University and Northwest Business College. Beverly enjoyed serving her community in the workforce. She worked for Washington Water Power, the Whitman County Conservation Service, Whitman County Auditor, and even spent time as the Deputy Treasurer for Whitman County. She was particularly fond of her secretarial positions at WSU. She held secretarial positions in the Business, History and Communication departments before retiring after 25 years of service.

Beverly married Joe Sheer in December 1941. They were married for 18 years, making their home in Colfax with their three children. After that chapter of her life, she moved to Pullman where she met and married Lloyd Cook. Together they enjoyed an active 23 years filled with family, traveling, and camping.

Beverly, or "Bev", as she was affectionately called, devoted her life to family, church, and homemaking. She shared many stories and life lessons with her children and grandchildren. Bev was a graceful dancer and enjoyed all types of dancing, including square dance and ballroom. She was a wonderful cook, being known by her friends for not only her angel food cake but also her corn chowder. Bev was joyful in the simple pleasures in life – whether it was tending her garden and daisies, attending local festivities and picnics, making flower arrangements, preparing special meals for visiting guests and family, even feeding the squirrels behind her and Lloyd's home in Pullman. She was an active member of the Pullman Senior Center, played in The Kitchen Band, attended the Moscow Nazarene Church, and enjoyed trips with the Road Runners.

She could always be counted on to share a kind word, a gracious smile, and a caring gesture. Beverly's truly sweet spirit endeared her to colleagues, friends, and family members over the years. She never missed a birthday, anniversary, or holiday without sending a loving card or making a call. For more than 20 years, she greeted the postal carrier daily with cookies and milk or tea. She collected clocks and angels – you would rarely see her without an angel on the collar of her coat or sweater. It was completely befitting of a lady with such grace that whether in her home or out and about, there were always angels nearby. Our dear Beverly is still surrounded by them now.

Beverly is survived by her daughter Darrene (Rod) Carlson of Pullman; daughter Joeen Sheer of San Francisco; step-children Dave Cook (Francis) of Umatilla; Judy Flint of Ilwaco; daughter-in-law Lois Sheer of Atlanta, Georgia; sister Eileen Hendron (Bob) of Des Moines, Washington; sister-in-law Hazel Kincaid of Seattle; grandchildren Mandi Ash, Mindi Sheer, Jessica Sheer, Hunter Cook, Chris and Brian Underwood and great grandchild Shaina Skillingstad.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd in 1997; son Col. Tracy Sheer, US Army (Ret.); as well as her parents and two siblings. The family requests that memorial contributions in Beverly's honor be directed to the Pullman Senior Center or to the American Heart Association (http://www.heart.org/)and the American Cancer Society.
