Obituary

Beverly J. Stanczak, life-long Whitman County resident, passed away Friday evening, August 1, 2014 in Pullman. She was 82. Beverly was one of eight girls and 2 boys born to Raymond and Marie (Rotramel) Dyer of Tekoa. She was born December 30, 1931 in Tekoa where she grew up and attended school. One week after her high school graduation Bev married Frank Stanczak whom she had met through one of her sisters. They married June 10, 1950 and made their home in Tekoa and in Spokane for a few years. Later they moved to Oakesdale and settled into a little house in town that they soon began adding on to as their family also grew. Frank owned and operated the Phillips 66 Station in town and also worked for the Good-Year Tire Co. and Whitman County. Beverly kept busy as a wife and mother but also found time to work as a cook in the Oakesdale Café. She spent many years working as a housekeeper at Washington State University and was well known around the dorms; especially Stevenson Hall. She and Frank moved to Pullman around 1987. Bev liked to make doll clothes and fix three or four dolls up completely for the annual toy drive. She was also a member of a ladies group she lovingly called her "geriatric" club. She was passionate about animals and following the death of her husband Frank in 2004 she has had Mousse, her dog, as her constant companion. She liked to travel some and had visited Mexico, California and the East Coast as well as other places. She also kept a nice garden and yard around her home in Pullman. Beverly is survived by her two children; Shannon Stanczak of New York City and Randy Stanczak of the Spokane Valley and by one brother; Ron Dyer of Plainville, Massachusetts. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 7 sisters and 1 brother. No formal services are planned for Beverly and those wishing to make a memorial contribution in her honor are encouraged to consider the 2nd Chance Animal Shelter or the Whitman County Humane Society both in Pullman.
