Obituary

Bonnie H. Bigsby, 83, of LaCrosse, WA died Sept. 14, 2016 at home surrounded by family. Bonnie was born Aug. 6, 1933 in Emmett, ID to Walter & Edith (Lynn) Bigsby. The family moved throughout his growing up, settling in LaCrosse where Bonnie graduated from high school during which time he was a golden gloves boxing champ and played on the baseball & football teams . Bonnie married Verda McKee on Aug. 30, 1952 in LaCrosse where they have made their home all these years. They celebrated their 64th anniversary this past August. Bonnie went to work for the LaCrosse Grain Growers and at the time of his retirement after 37 years he was the area manager. He then went to work for Jones Implement in Colfax for several years. Bonnie who was known as Mr. LaCrosse was active in all facets of the community. He was active in little league and girls softball as a coach and umpired baseball from little league to college. Bonnie volunteered on the LaCrosse Fire Dept. and as a first responder. He served as city fire chief for the department passionately serving his community for many years. Being community oriented Bonnie was a member of the LaCrosse City Council, LaCrosse Gun Club, and charter member of the Lions Club and was the LaCrosse Building Inspector until the time of his death. Bonnie enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting & fishing. Above all Bonnie was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was also devoted to his faith. He was a devoted member of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints. He served as High Priest and counselor in the Bishopric in Colfax. Bonnie & Verda served a church mission together in Fullerton, CA. He is survived by his wife Verda at the family home in LaCrosse; three daughters Shannon Ellis of LaCrosse; Shelly Ralston of Kennewick; Doris Garner of Nampa, ID; two brothers Vern & Lynn Bigsby; 16 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren with a set of triplets on the way and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Fred & William Bigsby; son Bonnie Jr.; and granddaughter Shelly Ralston. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016 at the Colfax Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, 2652 Almota Rd. Viewing will proceed the service at 10 AM in the church's Relief Society Room. Dedication of the grave will follow at the LaCrosse Cemetery. Family friends and community are invited to a luncheon at 1:30 in the LaCrosse Park to share memories, laughs and hugs. Friends may also call at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax on Monday from 1 to 5 PM. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax, WA has been entrusted with arrangements.
