Obituary

Carol Ann Rubin, age 84, passed away on June 5, 2026 in Colfax, Washington. She was born on April 29, 1942, in Colfax, Washington, to Richard “Dick” and Eleanor (McBride) Haxton. Funeral Services for Carol will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Onecho Bible Church. She will be laid to rest in the Onecho Cemetery prior to the services; at 2:00 PM.

Carol was born in Colfax and spent her entire life in this area. One of four siblings in the Haxton home; she attended the Holy Names Catholic School in Spokane until her sophomore year and then graduated from Colfax High School in 1960.

Carol met the love of her life, Mark C. Rubin, at a Grange Hall dance. They were married on September 1, 1960, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in family, hard work, and faith. Carol worked at the Whitman County Gazette early in their marriage and they made their home in the Onecho area. In 1966, Mark and Carol moved to the homestead, where they took over the family farm, working the land together until retiring in 2002. They were longtime, faithful members of Onecho Bible Church, where they found community, fellowship, and spiritual grounding.

They welcomed two children together: a daughter, Gwen, born in 1962, and a son, Jay, born in 1965. Carol was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who valued family above all else. Carol enjoyed cooking, working in her yard and garden, canning, and mowing the lawn. She taught her kids to sew and she enjoyed doing crafts. She loved to attend their sporting events; and was often the loudest one to cheer in the gym. She rarely missed Monday Night Football and looked forward to it every week.

Her husband; Mark was instrumental in the National Farmers Organization and Carol worked as the chapter secretary in Colfax during the 80’s and 90’s. Mark and Carol shared a love of travel and spent nearly 40 winters traveling south in their motorhome, visiting Arizona and California. They also enjoyed major trips and cruises together, including a memorable trip through the Panama Canal.

Carol will be remembered for her strong devotion to her family, her warm smile, steadfast faith, and her love of her community. Her legacy lives on through her family and in the many lives she touched.

She is survived by her two children, Gwen (Greg) Nolan and Jay (Kathy) Rubin, both of Colfax; five grandchildren, Coleman (Tavia) Williams, Jason Nolan, Andrew (Hanna) Nolan, Jared Ledbetter, and Bryan Rubin; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Her husband; Mark, passed away January 18th, this year; she was also preceded in death by her three siblings; Bob Haxton, Mary Lou Johnson, and Eileen Johnson and by her parents.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Onecho Bible Church, the Onecho Cemetery, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, Spokane-Pullman Chapter, 316 W Boone Ave # 670, Spokane, WA 99201.
