Obituary

Carol Joy Stueckle passed away on March 24, 2026 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. Born on August 15, 1938 in Endicott, Washington to Anna Biedel Weitz and Alex L. Weitz she weighed 11 lb and 3 oz on the family farm chicken scale.

Carol graduated from Endicott High School in 1956 and went on to attend Washington State University from 1956 to 1960. It was during her school years that she met Ben Stueckle at a wedding where Ben sang with the Dusty Quartet and Carol played the organ. They married on February 7, 1960 and settled on a farm between Colfax and Palouse. Together they shared a joyful life together until Ben’s passing in 1985.

Carol was always deeply devoted to her community. She was active in the church, first at Community Bible Church and later at the Colfax Baptist Church. She also was a member of Athenaeum Club, Besse Mechling Club, and the Whitman County Historical Society. She was a member of the WSU Alumni Association and did promotions for the Washington Pea and Lentil Commission.

In 1988, Carol was elected mayor of Colfax. Following that she was the Resident Coordinator for The Courtyard and the Foundation Director for the Whitman Community Hospital as it was known at the time. In her later years she dabbled in many activities and adventures including publishing cookbooks, public speaking, and playing piano and organ for church, weddings, and other community events.

She is survived by her daughters Susan Stacey of Spokane and Sherri Aune of Colfax, grandchildren Ben Aune, Kyle Stacey, Andrew Stacey (Megan), and Megan Stacey, and brothers-in-law Rev. Norman Stueckle and Duane Stueckle (Lori).

Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ben Stueckle, her parents Anna and Alex Weitz, and sister Bev Morasch. A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate Carol’s life on April 4, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Corbeill Funeral Home in Colfax, Washington.
