Carroll A. Schultheis, 86, a lifelong Colton, WA farmer, passed away March 10, 2019 at his Colton home surrounded by his family, after a short battle with cancer. Carroll was born May 31, 1932 in Colton to Jacob & Frances (Haupt) Schultheis. He attended St. Boniface Catholic grade school and high school, graduating in 1950. Carroll attended Gonzaga University for a semester before he joined the US Army in 1952. He served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1954. It was during this time that Carroll married Edna Mae Morbeck on July 24, 1953 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Uniontown. Together they made the family farm in Colton their home. Carroll farmed his entire life, taking great pride in working the land. He was named the State Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1987. Carroll was a member of St. Gall Catholic Church and was active in the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight from 1964-1966 and as District Deputy 1972-1974. He served on the Diocesan Catholic School Board for seven years and the Diocesan Catholic Foundation Board for nine. Carroll was active in the Colton Booster Club, served on the Board of Directors of the Uniontown Cooperative Assn., spent six years serving on the ASCS County Committee and was a member of the American Legion. Carroll was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and always put his wife and family first. Upon retiring he enjoyed golfing and time spent with family no matter what the event. Carroll is survived by his wife of 65 years Edna Mae at the family home in Colton; six sons: Steve (Shelly) Schultheis of Beaverton, OR; Bob (Jennifer) Schultheis of Marshfield, MO; Gerry (Debbie) Schultheis of Mead, WA; Art (Sue) Schultheis of Colton; Ed Schultheis of Monroe, WA; Greg (Kim) Schultheis of Colton; daughter Cathy (Ken) Douglas of Portland, OR; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren (and two on the way); three sisters Ann Heitstuman of Pomeroy, WA; Myrna Schimmels of Spokane Valley, WA; Lela Sergi of Mercer Island, WA and a sister-in-law Karen Schultheis of Clarkston, WA. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents and a brother J. Leigh Schultheis. A Vigil/Rosary service will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 7 PM at St. Gall Catholic Church in Colton. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, March 22, at St. Galls. Vault interment will follow at St. Gall Catholic Cemetery. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman, WA has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Gall Endowment Fund or to Guardian Angel-St. Boniface School in Colton.
