He was honorably discharged in 1954 and returned to the farm at Steptoe where he farmed with his dad and an older brother, Dale. He was one of the younger players to play fast pitch baseball in Colfax and could often be seen on the diamond at Schmuck Park. He also was an avid softball player in the Spokane Metro league where he played short-stop and pitcher. Cedric and Diana Burke were married in Steptoe July 30, 1970. They made their home on the family farm. Ced was active in his community with service on the Steptoe Cemetery Board and the Steptoe School Board. He was a basketball referee in Steptoe for years. He was also a member of the Colfax Elks, liked league bowling and was an avid golfer; spending several years as a member of the Colfax Twilight League. He liked to take his grandkids fishing or attend as many of their sporting events as he could. Ced was inducted into the Inland Empire Softball Hall of Fame in 1985. He was also big factor in starting Babe Ruth baseball in this area. He served at the State level for Babe Ruth and was honored to be inducted into their hall of fame as well. His son Mark partnered with him on the farm in 1989. Ced never really retired from farming – he just quit paying his share of the bills.
