Chuck Roper, Garfield native, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Rosalia on July 10, 2025. He was 76. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 26th at 10:00 am at the Garfield Christian Fellowship, with a graveside service at the Garfield Cemetery and reception to follow.

Charles Frederick Roper, Jr. was born June 29, 1949 in Spokane, Washington. He was the oldest of six children born to Charles, Sr. and Wanda June Timm. Chuck grew up on the family farm near Garfield where he learned an honest work ethic and developed his outgoing personality. He graduated from Garfield High School in 1967 and attended Eastern Washington University in Cheney where he studied to be an accountant. Along the way he married Diana Gayle Million, whom he had met while in Garfield, on September 6, 1969. They lived in Spokane while he finished college and they started their family there in 1973.

In 1976 Chuck began a long career as an accountant in the controller's office at Eastern Washington University. Their family continued to grow and they lived in Spokane and Garfield before making Cheney a more permanent home in 1981. Chuck was a licensed pilot and flew his own Cessna plane. He absolutely loved to fly and his family enjoyed going on excursions with him. Profound sadness entered their lives in 1986 with the death of his wife Diana. Chuck found happiness a couple times after her death but never married again. He chose instead to work hard, enjoy time with his family on road trips or vacations and visit with friends.

He moved to Rosalia in 2000 and has lived there since. He loved all of his grandkids very much and enjoyed attending their sporting events and school activities. He made countless trips to the Coeur d'Alene Casino to play Bingo. Chuck loved to root for the Mariners and would attend the games with his kids when he could. He would take road trips with his son into Montana and always included a favorite stop at the $10,000 Silver Dollar Bar. Restaurant owners all over the Inland Northwest knew him by name and they always chatted when he came in.

Chuck was a hard worker. In addition to his job at EWU he also delivered the mail on a rural route around Spangle for the last 15 years. He also worked for CMS, a crowd management firm, at venues like the Fox Theatre, the Spokane Arena, and the Fairgrounds. All of this shows just how much he loved being around people.

He is survived by his loving family including daughters: Stacey Roper, Spokane; Stephanie (Ronnie) Terrell, Thornton; Dennille Roper, Spokane; and his son, Jeffrey Knight, Spokane. His 7 grandchildren of whom he was so proud: Brittany, Rebecca, Riley, Desanee (Josh), Lindsay, Jayden, and Daxton; and by 2 great-grands, David and Easton. His siblings: Roger Roper, Spangle; Douglas Roper, Garfield; Bruce Roper, Garfield; Dawna Chappell, Oakesdale; and Steven Roper, Beaverton, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
