Obituary

Clinton Dean Yonge, 92, of Pullman, WA and formerly of Ft. Pierce, Florida died on June 5, 2016 at the Regency Assisted Living Community in Pullman, WA. Dean was born Jan. 20, 1924 in Jacksonville, FL to Julian & Ruth (Deane) Yonge. When Dean was 5, the family moved to Ft. Pierce, Florida. After high school graduation he enrolled at Georgia Tech University as an aeronautical engineering major. In 1943 Dean left Georgia Tech and enlisted in the United States Navy and was accepted into the flight training program. After receiving his wings, he married his one true love, Joan Russell on Aug. 24, 1945. Following his service in the Navy he and Joan returned to Ft. Pierce where they made their home and raised a family. Dean spent his entire career as a crop duster until his retirement in 1992. He had a special love for flying and loved taking his kids and grandkids up for joy rides. Dean was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished time with family. Through the years he found satisfaction in coaching little league, fishing, and regaling all who would listen to his many flying adventures. He also loved talking about the bible and his faith in God. Dean was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church all of his life and was active in various activities in the life of the church including serving as a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher. He also enjoyed his work through the church in elder care. He lived 90 years in sunny Florida but agreed that it would be sensible to move to the "frozen north" to be close to family. He never did get used to the winters (or spring or fall for that matter) in Pullman, but truly enjoyed being close to family. He is survived by his two sons David (Marion) Yonge of Pullman, WA & Gary (Bev) Yonge of Seattle, WA; five grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren. Dean was preceded in death by his wife Joan, in 2004. The family wishes to thank the staff at Regency (Whitman) Assisted Living for their constant care and cheerfulness. Also, a huge heartfelt thank you goes to Gentiva Hospice for the special gifts of love and care that they bestowed upon Dean. A memorial service will be held at the Indian River Presbyterian Church in Ft. Pierce on September 15th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Indian River Presbyterian Memorial Fund is suggested.
