Obituary

Colleen Marilyn Sproul
September 25, 1951 – June 26, 2025

Colleen Marilyn Sproul (Louderback) passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on September 25, 1951, in Aberdeen, Washington, Colleen was raised in Hoquiam, where she graduated from high school and began a lifelong journey dedicated to caring for others.

Colleen devoted her professional life to healthcare, spending most of her career as a nurse—a calling that reflected her compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication. After retiring, she continued her commitment to her community by serving two elected terms on the Columbia County Hospital Board of Commissioners.

She was a woman of many talents and passions. A gifted artist, Colleen loved arts and crafts, especially knitting and creating intricate porcelain dolls—many of which were entered in fairs and exhibitions. She also enjoyed hunting and found great joy in the peace and freedom of rural eastern Washington, where she and her husband made their home.

Colleen had a lifelong love of animals, especially her dogs, who were as much family to her as any person. Over the years, she raised and cherished many beloved companions—Scooter, Crystal, Grizz, Ginger, Sage, and their current dog, Timber.
Colleen was a feisty, blue-eyed redheaded Irish-Scottish woman with a small frame and a mighty spirit. Those who knew her knew not to underestimate her—she had a fire in her soul and a heart full of love. She gave the warmest hugs and cared deeply for her family, friends, and every life she touched.

She is survived by her loving husband, Tom Sproul; her children Brendan Vance and Jessica Swift; stepdaughter Sarah Sproul Anderson; grandchildren Lily, Mikel, Alex, Nick, and Easton; and her brother, Paul Louderback. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Roberta Louderback; her brothers Lee and Brian; and her sister Constance.

A memorial service will be scheduled and announced soon, where her life and legacy will be honored by those who loved her most.
Colleen's warmth, creativity, and strength will be missed dearly and remembered always.
