Cynthia M. Hughes

Cynthia Margaret Hughes passed away on October 19, 2016 at the age of 79 in Pullman, WA.

Cynthia was born on February 21, 1937 in Colfax, Washington to Juanita and Chet Holbrook. She married her high school sweetheart, Bruce B. Hughes, 60 years ago on July 3, 1956. Cynthia is survived by her five children, LaVonne Harrington (Tom) of Issaquah, Chuck of Endicott, Phil (Elaine) of Culdesac, Dianne Heaslet (Jim) of Uniontown, Marty (Sandi) of Rockford, and five grandchildren, Rusty Heaslet (Lauren), Derek Heaslet, McKenzie Heaslet, Kelsey Harrington, Taylor Holskey (Josh) and one great granddaughter, Sydney Heaslet.

Cynthia grew up on a farm outside Colfax, Washington with three sisters and two brothers. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1956 and married her husband Bruce Hughes. The young couple lived in Waterloo, Iowa and Renton and Longview Washington as Bruce established his career as a mechanical engineer. In 1964 they moved their family of seven to Uniontown, Washington where Cynthia set up and managed the household and raised their five children. They lived for the next 49 years becoming an integral part of the Uniontown/ Colton community. She was a member of the city council and was instrumental in organizing the town's Centennial Celebration in 1989. Cynthia and Bruce lived the last 3 years in Pullman, WA.

Cynthia was active in the St. Boniface Alter Society, the American Legion Auxiliary and was the chairperson for the annual American Red Cross drive in the Uniontown/Colton area for over 25 years. She volunteered at St. Boniface/Guardian Angel School where her children attended for over 14 years and continued as her grandchildren attended for another 16.

She was an avid reader and even mastered the skill while riding behind Bruce as they traveled the U.S. by motorcycle! She loved family gatherings and neighborhood parties often celebrated with family friends and neighbors Herb and Sharon Becker and family. She was a fan of her children and grandchildren's athletic and academic pursuits. She became an LCSC women's basketball fan and a member of their scholarship club, watching her granddaughter play from 2011 to 2015 and when she couldn't make it to the game listening to them on the radio.

A vigil service will be held Friday, November 25th at 7:00pm and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 26th at 11:00am at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Uniontown, WA. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman, WA has been entrusted with arrangements.
