IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dallas
Filan
September 4, 1959 – September 11, 2025
Dallas Scott Filan, 66, longtime resident of LaCrosse, passed away September 11, 2025 after a valiant battle with cancer. Dallas had just retired from his 35-year career with the Pioneer Telephone Company in April.
He was born September 4, 1959 in Colfax to Willis and Sandra Cox Filan. He grew up on the family farm in Hay. He attended school in Hay and Colfax, and graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1978. His boyhood years were filled with many family outings of camping, hunting and farming; things he loved very much.
Dallas attended WSU in Pullman for a while and Spokane Community College before attending a trade school for telephone work in Hobbs, New Mexico. He met Denise Hill, a gal from Palouse, in 1984 while she was waitressing in Colfax at the Wheat n' Barley. They hit it off immediately and while Dallas did some bartending and Denise did some table waiting, they built a relationship together. Dallas and Denise married February 21, 1987 in Palouse and made their home initially in Colfax. Soon after that Dallas got a job for the phone company GTE in Bothell, Washington and they moved over to the west side. In 1990 he began his long career with Pioneer Telephone Company in LaCrosse and they have lived there since.
Dallas was very active in the community. He was a volunteer fireman on the LaCrosse Fire Department, where he served as its Chief for a time. He spent Summers farming with family and loved ones, driving combines. Dallas and his family enjoyed spending time at the Filan cabin on Lake Pend O'Reille. They also had a cabin in the Blue Mountains, where they enjoyed woodcutting, fires, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, and hunting, with many good memories with family and friends. He was a private pilot that enjoyed flying his Super Cub. He would enjoy catching farmers by surprise with a flyby buzz. Dallas enjoyed football, traveling to several NFL games with friends and family across the country. Dallas golfed and bowled for many years on the Pioneer Telephone Co. team. He loved his dogs with his whole heart, and will be especially missed by Axel, Didi and Tater.
Dallas was well known in the community as a hard worker and was respected by his peers and co-workers at the phone company. He was very instrumental in the introduction of fiber optic cable and the advancement of the internet into the rural Whitman County area. After 35 years with the company, he retired in April of 2025. Dallas was a friend to everyone, and an enemy to none.
Dallas is survived by his wife Denise at their home in LaCrosse; 2 children, Dallas Adam (Kaveri) Filan of Kennewick, WA. and Drew Alexandrea Filan of LaCrosse; his brother Damon (Jeanette) Filan of Kennewick; and by several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Bill, his sister Didi, and by his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 10th at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Colfax with a celebration of life to follow at the Hay hunting camp. Dallas and his family would be honored if friends and family planted a tree in his honor.
