IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel
Snider
May 17, 1948 – February 6, 2021
Daniel Richard Snider, 72, passed away peacefully at his new home in St. John, WA, on February 6, 2021.
A lifelong resident of the Walla Walla area, Dan was born on May 17, 1948, the second of four sons born to Dale and Patricia Snider. He attended Sharpstein Elementary, Pioneer Junior High, and graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1966.
Growing up in Walla Walla, Dan was active in the Boy Scouts, earning his Eagle Scout rank. He enjoyed time on the swim team and played trumpet and tuba in the school band. He and his family spent summers boating, and he enjoyed hunting in the fall.
Dan attended WSU and graduated in 1971 with degrees in Political Science and Business Administration. During the summers of his college years, he was a construction worker. He was especially proud to have worked on the Little Goose Dam and on the Kibbie Dome at the University of Idaho in Moscow.
While at WSU, Dan met his future wife, Donna Starkel, who was from Puyallup, WA. They were married in 1970. After his graduation, they moved to Spokane, WA, where they lived for some time. Dan attended Gonzaga Law School for one year and then began his 40-year career in real estate. He worked for Mike Paladin Realtors in Spokane for three years before returning to Walla Walla in 1975 to join his father at Dale Snider Realtors. Together as co-brokers, they later owned a franchise with Century 21 for many years. After his father passed away, Dan established New Frontier Realty.
Dan was active in the Walla Walla Multiple Listing Service and Board of Realtors. He was also a member of the Jaycees, the Elks, and the Exchange Club. He enjoyed time on various bowling leagues, and in his later years, he spent time singing with the Walla Walla Choral Society and the choir at Christ Lutheran Church, where he was a member for many years.
Dan's greatest pride and joy was his three children: Danielle, Diana, and Andrew. He spent many years watching soccer, softball, baseball, track, cross country, and basketball. He also attended many band and choir concerts during his children's high school and college years. He was their biggest cheerleader and encouraged them to try many activities, including the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
Unfortunately, Dan suffered a massive stroke in 2014 and resided at Regency at the Park care facility in College Place for more than six years until very recently moving to St. John, WA, to live with his daughter and her family.
He was well-known in Regency and the community in general for his corny jokes and puns, which he had been in the habit of making for most of his life. He was always ready to hear a new joke or to share some of his favorites with new audiences (victims). His sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Dan is survived by his wife, Donna, of St. John, WA; his three children, Danielle Treis (Kenneth) of St. John, WA, Diana Piefer (Craig), of Buena Vista, CO, and Andrew Snider (Teresa), of Puyallup, WA; his 15 grandchildren who he adored; his three brothers, Darell, Roland, and Don; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a precious great-granddaughter, Clementine Raye.
A private burial for family will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla on March 13, 2021.
Memorial donations to Christ Lutheran Church are suggested by the family.
