Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19 at the First Baptist Church in Colfax with Rev. Lynn Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Pullman. Darrell was born on September 1, 1938 to Dowey & Maxine Hall in Steptoe, Washington. He grew up in Steptoe for most of his early life but, just before his senior year of high school, his family moved to Cheney. It was in Cheney that he graduated high school in 1956. After high school, Darrell served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after one tour of service.
He met Marlene Long, best friend of his sister Linda, and the two hit it off quite well. After dating for a period of time, the couple married on November 2, 1960 in Pullman. After their marriage, the young couple settled in the Union Center area where they made their lifelong home. Darrell was a farmer and a rancher for his whole life. He raised cows and was a horseman, working to break horses when he was younger.
Darrell was the founder of the Colfax Junior Rodeo and spent many hours (and drove many miles) with his children to participate in junior rodeo events. After his kids moved through the program, he served as a judge for many junior rodeos around the region. He enjoyed hunting, John Wayne movies and participating in the Masonic Lodge and the Pine Grove Grange in Albion. He enjoyed spending time with all of his grandsons and built very special relationships with all of them.
Darrell is survived by his daughter Carol (Steve) Evans of Colfax; sister Linda (Lee) McGuire of Cashup Flats; grandsons Cody (Teara) Evans, Dustin (Holly) Hall and Dallas Hall, as well as his many friends and extended "family" from the junior rodeo circuit. He was preceded in death by his wife Marlene in 2001 and son Darren in 1995.
Memorial contributions in Darrell's honor are suggested to the Colfax Junior Rodeo Association. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
