David Craig Powell, born in Colfax, Washington, February 25, 1948, to Harold and Katie Powell, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a valiant fight against brain cancer on April 29, 2024.
Raised in Colfax, he spent a fair amount of time in his father's shop, Powell Plumbing & Heating. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1966 and went on to study Civil Engineering at Washington State University. During his time at WSU, he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. After graduating from WSU in 1971, he went on to work in the oil refining industry for 35+ years working for Texaco/Shell which included moves to Texas, California, and then back home to Washington. He also traveled the country and world to different refineries training employees on how to maintain their equipment.
David married Kathy Stensaa on September 23rd, 1977. Their daughter Jennifer was born November 14, 1982 in Houston, Texas. A few years later their son Tristan was born on September 11, 1985 in Los Angeles, California.
David was a kind and gentle soul, making friends everywhere he went. In his retirement, he took up woodworking, and the love for his craft was evident in all that he made, which included beautiful furniture, cutting boards, decorative boxes, clocks, & vases. He also had a love for golf and going to the movies. He especially loved cheering on his WSU Cougs sports teams.
David is survived by his wife Kathy of 46 years; children, Jennifer (Matt Zylstra), Tristan (Jodi); and sister Peggy (Jon Kehne). He leaves behind 2 grandchildren Brayden & Wyatt, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Katie; and brother Roger.
Visitation times will be from 9-5 Thursday and Friday at the Corbeill Funeral Home in Colfax; 109 N. Mill Street. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 11th, at 10:00 AM in the Colfax Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in Colfax. The family suggests memorial gifts be to the Colfax Fire Department in his memory. On-line guest book is at www.corbeillfuneralhomes.com
