IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David
Stueckle
September 6, 1931 – March 7, 2025
David Stueckle, longtime Dusty area farmer, passed away March 7, 2025 at The Courtyard in Colfax where he had lived for about six weeks. He was 93. Memorial Services are being planned for a later date in the Springtime.
David John Stueckle was born September 6, 1931 on the family farm near Dusty to Fred and Emma Sauer Stueckle. He grew up helping on the farm and attending LaCrosse Schools; where he played basketball, football, and baseball. David graduated with the Class of 1950. After a year on the farm, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. David taught instrument navigation to pilots at the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. He was honorably discharged July 29, 1955 and returned home to Dusty.
David married Phyllis Aune at Selbu Lutheran Church on September 11, 1955. They farmed together their entire marriage and raised their two children on the farm. David was very active with the Washington Farm Bureau, regularly attending legislative days in Olympia; he served as President of the Whitman County chapter for 8 or 9 years. He was also an active member of the Country Bible Church at Dusty and served as their Treasurer for over 40 years. He served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Dusty Cemetery for over 40 years as well. He served on the local Child Evangelism Fellowship committee, serving as Treasurer there, too.
He loved visiting with everyone, often sharing the latest jokes he'd heard. He had a wealth of knowledge of the history of the county, especially the Dusty and LaCrosse areas. He was the one to ask!
David (and Phyllis too) rarely missed the games, concerts, and performances of not only their kids, but also all of their grandchildren, often traveling to Portland, Colfax, and Coeur d'Alene to be supportive.
Phyllis passed away April 23, 2018 and David continued living at the farm until just 6 weeks ago when his health necessitated a move to The Courtyard in Colfax. He is survived by his son Doug (Cheryl) Stueckle in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and his daughter Karen (Larry) Light of LaCrosse (formerly of Portland, Oregon); 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and by 1 brother, Reuben in Puyallup. His brother Arnold of Spokane preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Onecho Bible Church in Colfax, WA. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at the Dusty Cemetery. A reception will follow at the family farm. Memorial gifts in his memory should be directed to the Country Bible Church, Dusty Cemetery, or the Union Gospel Mission.
Corbeill Funeral Home in Colfax is caring for our friend and his family.
