Donald Wayne Dayton, Jr., Colfax native, passed away at his home in Spokane Valley April 17, 2017. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 12th at 1:00 p.m. with a gathering to follow at the Colfax Golf Course. Don was born January 15, 1953 in Colfax to Donald, Sr. and Francene (VanTine) Dayton. He was raised in Colfax and attended schools here. As a teenager he prided himself with a paper route and even saved a house from burning down by extinguishing it with a garden hose. He enjoyed spending time at the Snake River camping and fishing with family and friends. He liked all sports and played football, baseball and especially basketball in high school. Don graduated from Colfax High School in 1971. He attended Columbia Basin College in Pasco. He met Lynn Davis and they married in 1972. They made their home in Pasco. He spent most of his life working as a salesman or as an equipment operator. Don and Lynn were later divorced at which time he moved to the coast. While living there he worked for various fencing companies and enjoyed meeting new customers. He loved to spend time going to the Seattle aquarium or to the Woodland Park Zoo with their daughter, Amber. Don enjoyed collecting antique money (paper and coins) and was always looking to have fun. He loved fast cars and owned various cars including a green Chevelle SS that he was particularly proud of. He loved pets and had many dogs that he would consider to be family. Don worked for the county road department in Walla Walla and for the last 17 years he has called Spokane home. He most recently worked as a forklift operator for Snow Peak Forest Products in Spokane and retired from there last fall. He is survived by his daughter, Amber Roberts of Colfax; 3 grandchildren, Tucker Gleason, Trace Roberts and Hadley Roberts; his siblings, Craig Dayton, Tom (Denise) Fowler, Rhonda (Scott) Pittman, Doug Dayton and Mike Longmire and by his dad, Don (Mary) Dayton, Sr. also of Colfax.
