Donald LaVerne Emerson, Sr., 87, a lifelong Albion, WA resident died July 28, 2016 at Pullman Regional Hospital. Donald was born April 20, 1929 in Albion to Antone & Ruth (Kenoyer) Emerson. He grew up and attended school in Albion. Don married Irene Peterson on Nov. 23, 1947 in Moscow, ID. They were together for 68 years and made their home in Albion, raising the family there. Don went to work for the U.S. Postal service as a mail carrier. He retired in 1985 following a 37 year career with the postal service. Following his retirement Don operated Emerson Construction and also managed his Albion rental properties. Don loved playing baseball and coached the Albion little league baseball team for many years. He was a supporter of WSU athletics through the years and especially enjoyed football and baseball. Most of all Don was a loving husband, father and grandfather who appreciated being with his family. He was a wonderful storyteller and also enjoyed time spent with his many friends. Don was a member of several service organizations and the Albion City Council through the years. He also was a member of the Albion Volunteer Fire Dept., and served a term as Albion sheriff and the National Guard. Don is survived by his daughter Sherry Noeldner of Hansville, WA; his son Donald L. Emerson, Jr., of Las Vegas, NV; one brother Dick Emerson and two sisters Evelyn & Eileen as well as his 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his loving wife Irene this past June of 2016; daughter Candice Slinkard in 2013 and one brother, Jim Emerson, Sr. this past April. A memorial service celebrating both Don and Irene's lives was held at the Albion Community Church. They were buried together at the Albion Cemetery. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman, WA was entrusted with arrangements.
