Obituary

Donald Bruce Sadler, 67, of Pullman passed away at his home on June 18, 2014 with his family at his side. There will be a Celebration of Life Open House on Saturday June 28, 2014 from 1:30 to 4:30pm at the family home in Pullman.

Don was born on December 31, 1946 in Cannelton, West Virginia, the only child of Donald K. & Josie Marie (Moore) Sadler. When he was five years old the family moved to Venice, California where Don grew up and graduated from Venice High School in 1964. He began working for General Telephone (later Verizon) as a data technician and retired in 2008 after 40 years of service. Don enjoyed his job and those he worked with.

Don met Kate Campbell while living in California. After many dates, the first of which was at a Jazz club in Los Angeles, the two wed in Topanga Canyon, California on February 14, 1971. Five years later they moved to Pullman and have made their home here since that time. Don loved to sail. His best sailing memories were of trips to Mexico, Catalina Island and Hawaii. Don enjoyed hiking at Kamiak Butte, backpacking trips around the Northwest and touring the National Parks. He also had a "love-hate" relationship with golf.

The most important thing to Don was his faith, family and his love of Jazz music. He loved to travel to see Jazz concerts, including a trip with his wife to Europe for "The North Sea Jazz Festival", one of the largest Jazz festivals in Europe. They enjoyed several other trips to see Jazz festivals around the Northwest and he always looked forward to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho. He also had an uncanny ability to listen to a piece of Jazz and identify the artist and musicians within the group, often within a few notes.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Kate Sadler at the family home in Pullman; daughters Heather (Josh) Butler of Scappoose, Oregon and Summer Sadler of Bend, Oregon; grandsons Devin and Drew Butler and granddaughter Anne Butler as well as his mother Josie Marie Sadler of California. He was preceded in death by his father in 1976.

Memorial contributions in Don's honor are suggested to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance or the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. Kimball Funeral Home & Crematory of Pullman has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
