Donald U. Schultheis, 87, of Uniontown, WA. passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Royal Plaza Care Center in Lewiston. Vigil service will be held Thursday, July 7th at 7:00 pm at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Uniontown. The Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10:00 am at the church with burial following at the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery. Viewing will be Thursday from 9 to 4. Don was born in Colton on December 19, 1928 to Andrew and Winifred Moser Schultheis. He grew up on the family wheat and cattle ranch along the rim of the Snake River canyon west of Colton in a family of six boys and one girl. Don attended the Guardian Angel school. He played football in high school, and was involved in boxing and FFA. He graduated in 1946 and attended Gonzaga University in Spokane for a time. While working for a contractor in Spokane, Don was injured and required care at the hospital. While there he met a beautiful young nurse named Marie Irene Stumpf. They married in her hometown of Pierz, Minnesota on September 6, 1951. Don was serving in the U.S. Army at the time and they were stationed in Alexandria, Virginia. Following his honorable discharge in 1953 the couple returned to Spokane and Don worked as a foreman for a contracting company for the next nine years. Their family continued to grow as well and in 1962 the family moved to a ranch near Uniontown and they spent the rest of their lives tending their family and the land. Don had a strong work ethic and was an avid supporter of the community and the St. Boniface parish. He and Marie liked to go fishing and spent many good times together either at the coast or around one of the region's many smaller lakes. He also took up golfing after Marie urged him to. Don liked to watch sporting events such as baseball and football. Don was a member of the American Legion, the Elks Club and the Knights of Columbus. Don is survived by his seven children; David (Dorothy) Schultheis, Spokane, Kathy Schultheis, Vancouver, WA., Brian (Kathy) Schultheis, Spokane, Tim Schultheis, Spokane, Tom (Brenda) Schultheis, Colton, Glenn (Peggy) Schultheis of Spokane and Leanne Schultheis of Auburn, WA.; his brother, Father Mike Schultheis of Spokane; seven grandchildren, Denise, Dan, Scott, Adam, Patricia, Becca and Stephanie and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on September 7, 2009, by 4 brothers, Gene, Harold, John and Howard and by his sister, Joan O'Neil. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the St. Boniface Catholic Church Endowment Fund.
