Donald Raymond Shaw earned his wings on October 13, 2015, with his family by his side at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. He was 58 years old. Don was born in Kalispell, Montana on June 28, 1957 to Donald R. Shaw and Mary Lou Hansen. He attended grade school in Steptoe and for a short time in Lind, WA before returning to Colfax and graduated from Colfax High School in 1975. He married Mary Schmick and was the proud father of three daughters, Natalie, Kylie and Emily. He and Mary later divorced. He loved basketball and other sports. Whether he was playing, coaching, or watching his daughters play multiple sports, he spent endless hours in a gym. Don was a long time employee in the seed industry, including Whitman County Growers, Spokane Seed, and the PNW Steptoe Seed Plant at the time of his death. He married Karen Harvey in 2012 and added two step-children, Dillon and Jolee Aeschliman, to his family. Don enjoyed many activities including hunting, fishing, camping, playing horseshoes with friends, and going for drives. Time spent with family and friends was precious to him in addition to his little herd of dogs.
Survivors include his wife Karen at their home in the Wilcox area, daughters Natalie (Tom) Haney of Spokane; Kylie (Michael) Palazzola of Lewis/McCord, Emily (Dustin) Dawson of Colfax, as well as stepchildren Dillon and Jolee Aeschliman of Colfax. He also had 5 grandchildren. Other survivors include his brother Tim Shaw of Yakima and half-sisters Linda Gabbard and Deanna Vance of Yakima. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Shaw.
A graveside service for Don will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Bethel Cemetery in Steptoe, Washington at 11:00 a.m. A dinner and time for friends and fellowship will follow the service at the Steptoe Grange Hall.
