Obituary

Edith G. Altepeter Meyers, former longtime Grand Forks, North Dakota resident, passed away October 4, 2019 in St. John, Washington at the age of 95. Edith came to the St. John area in 2009 to live with her daughter and for the last five years she has resided at the Community Pride in St. John. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will immediately follow the church service (approx. 12:30) on Sunday, October 27 th at the Christian Life Assembly. Pastor Dennis Hinds will officiate. Edith will be laid to rest in the Altepeter Family Plot with her husband and children in the Greenwood Cemetery, Fisher, Minnesota next June.

She was born February 20, 1924 in Mayville, North Dakota to Robert and Susie Massie. Edith was the fourth of five children to bless the Massie home. She spent her youngest years growing up on a farm before the family moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota and she became a teenager there. At 19 Edith married Harvey Altepeter and they called Grand Forks home for many years. She worked in retail clothing and department stores off and on to keep busy. As her family grew, Edith did much of the things that homemakers and moms do. She also cared for other children in her home quite regularly as a babysitter. She liked to have her own money and would often find ways and time to work to accomplish this goal.

Edith had a strong work ethic and could rarely sit idle. Her hands were always busy. She loved crafting things, sewing, needle work of all kinds. She was active in the Assembly of God Church. Her family was very important to Edith and she loved to dote on her two daughters, Janet and Yvonne. The Altepeter family liked to camp and spend time at the lake in Minnesota. Harvey passed away in 1978. Edith married Dennis Meyers a few years later and following his death in 2009 is when she moved to Washington to be with family.

She is survived by her two daughters; Janet (Terry) Morgan of Rosalia, WA. and Yvonne (John R.) Polhemus of Castle Rock, CO.; 7 grandchildren of whom she was so proud, Ben, Heather, Garrett, Grace, Gabriel, Mike and Anna; and by 8 great-grandchildren. Edith was preceded in death by her two husbands, an infant son Harold James; her six-year-old daughter Kathryn Ann; and by brothers Claude, Raymond and Melvin; and her sister, Lola. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Christian Life Assembly, P.O. Box 276, St. John, WA. 99171.
