Obituary

Edward Paul Reed, 58, Oakesdale resident, passed away at his home on Friday, February 11, 2011. A graveside service will be held Friday, February 18th at 11:00 am at the Oakesdale Cemetery. Ed was born April 22, 1952 in Spokane, WA. to Paul T. Reed and Hazel M. (Lamb) Reed. He was raised on a farm between Oakesdale and Tekoa near Seabury and attended school in Tekoa until third grade when the family moved to Oakesdale and into the house that Ed currently resided in. Ed developed juvenile diabetes that same year, 1960, and fought that fight valiantly his entire life. In 1969 Ed earned the rank of Eagle Scout with the Oakesdale-Farmington Boy Scouts Troop 596. He graduated from Oakesdale High School in 1970 and immediately went to work for Western Farm Services Fertilizer and Chemical Co. at Belmont for two years and then went to work for Gardner & Smith at Oakesdale for seven years. Ed married Rosemary Clemens June 8, 1973 and their marriage ended in divorce in 1978. He worked for the Whitman County Road Department for a couple years before joining the Oakesdale Grain Growers as a truck driver for the next seven years. He married Nancy Holz in Spokane September 25, 1981. Their marriage was blessed by the birth of son, Evan September 14, 1992. Nancy passed away May 18, 2002. He went back to the County for a while before quitting to take care of his son Evan. Ed also worked part-time for the Town of Oakesdale and also for his good friend, Edgar Wilhelm at Wilhelm and Son in Rosalia, WA. Ed was also a member of Whitman County Fire District 10 since 1973, having served as Chief for 2 years and also as one of the first EMT's. He also served on City Council for 7 years. Evan died in an accident March 5, 2006. Ed is survived by a brother, Charles E. Reed of West Hills, CA. as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and many friends.
