Obituary

Eleanor Lee Pearson Eleanor (Ellie) Lee Pearson, passed away at the age of 91. She died peacefully in her home in Hillsboro Oregon on July 30th, 2025.

Born on January 4, 1934, in Willamina, Oregon, Ellie was the daughter of Sherman and Nora Pearson.  She had a younger brother Beldon who proceeded her in death.

Her family moved to Kelso Washington, and then to Dayton Washington when she was a child where she grew up and attended school.

She was married in 1955 to George Robert (Bob) Johnson and had two boys Rod and Jeff Johnson.  They moved to Minnesota, then Filer, Buhl, and American Falls Idaho.  Then they moved to the Portland area and eventually back to Dayton.  When she was divorced in the mid-seventies, Ellie moved back to Portland where she worked mostly in accounting for many years.  She was also on the board of the PACE credit union.  After she retired, she worked for 1000 Friends of Oregon for a time.

She had attended WSU when she was younger, but received her Bachelor's in Business from Portland State by taking night courses while she was working full time.

Ellie took care of her mother and aunt for many years.  While in Portland Ellie was involved in her church and especially liked the "Course in Miracles" where she made many friends.

Ellie loved walking and hiking in the Columbia River Gorge with her brother Beldon.  She lived close to downtown in south east Portland, and since the buses where always full by the time they reached her house, she had to walk to work (about a three-mile hike).

After she retired, she kept her habit, walking each day through the rose gardens of Ladd's Addition where she lived.  She kept dog treats in her walker for all the neighborhood dogs, often stopping to chat with their owners.

After she sold her house there, she moved back to Dayton for a few years and walked all over Dayton including to the United Brethren Church.

Finally, she moved into a tiny house we built in back of her son Jeff's house, that was built just for her with a side walk around it where she could continue her walking. She walked up to 3 miles a day with her walker rain or shine.

Ellie had boarders at her house in Portland both upstairs and down.  She made many wonderfully close friends this way and it gave her the opportunity for some unique travel experiences to Ireland and Syria.

She will be remembered for her kind spirit and welcoming acceptance of everyone she met.  She loved people and made friends easily.  She made many friends who are as close as family.
