Obituary

Eleanor Stubbe, 68, of Colfax, passed away at her home on May 17, 2015. Funeral services will be held at Bruning Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 21 with burial to follow at the Colfax Cemetery.

Eleanor was born on January 22, 1947 in Waterbury, Connecticut to Ben & Margaret Stelmack. Her father worked large government construction projects, such as roads and dams, and so the family moved around frequently. She graduated from Goldendale High School and then went on to community college for a year in Seattle. It was in Seattle that she met Doug Stubbe and after a year of dating, the couple married on November 10, 1967. They made their home in Seattle before moving to St. John for Doug's work. Eleanor worked as a preschool assistant in St. John and, when the couple moved to Colfax in 1988, she worked as a legal secretary for the Cooper Law Office.

She enjoyed doing "crafty stuff", reading, shopping, going fishing with Doug and helping people where she could. She was diagnosed with Lupus in 1999 and began to slow down since that time. She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother who always put her family first.

Eleanor is survived by her husband Doug at the family home in Colfax; sons Tony of Walla Walla, Sean of Colfax and Jim of Colfax as well as her sister Aileen Martin of North Bonneville, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents, an older brother and younger sister. Memorial contributions in Eleanor's honor are suggested to the Whitman Hospital Foundation or to the Whitman County Humane Society. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
