Obituary

Eleanor M. “Nanny” Therrien, longtime Colfax resident, passed away at the age of 95 Saturday, February 28, 2026 at The Courtyard assisted living in Colfax. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, March 28th, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Corbeill Funeral Home followed by a reception at the Colfax Eagles.

Eleanor was born March 17, 1930 in Michel, British Columbia to William and Edith Gregory. The 2nd of five children; Eleanor grew up in the small community of Michel. She married Alphonse J. Therrien on August 12, 1950; a young man who worked in the coal mines near Michel. They moved to Nelson, British Columbia where Al started his career as an electrical lineman for the City of Nelson. In 1956 the family moved to Tekoa, Washington when Al accepted a position with the Washington Water Power Company. The family then moved to Colfax in 1964.

Eleanor worked for Milo Yale at Yale’s Grocery Store in Tekoa. Thus began a lengthy grocery store career working for Milo’s in Tekoa. In Colfax, over the years Eleanor worked at the North Flat Market, the IGA store, and finally at Brown’s Excell and Rosauer’s. She initially worked as a checker and later she worked for Jim Krouse in the meat department. She loved her job and all the people she met along the way. After more than 35 years, she retired.

Eleanor was a lifetime Eagles Auxiliary member; she liked playing cards; especially cribbage. Nanny also enjoyed the casinos; she never met a slot machine she didn’t like. She enjoyed following grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all of their various activities. Eleanor loved family; holidays, birthdays and milestone events especially brought her joy.

She is survived by her four children; Anna Schluneger of Colfax, Maurice (Roxy) Therrien of Boise, Idaho, Gregory (Marisela) Therrien of Eagle, Idaho, and Guy (Jeanne) Therrien of Pullman; by 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters; Betty (Paul) Clizer of Portland, Oregon and Ann Bingaman of Rosalia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alphonse, in 1990; her sister Joan and brother, Bill; a grandson, Richie; son-in-law, Paul Schluneger; and her parents.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Courtyard Assisted Living staff, Hospice Staff, and the doctors and nurses at Whitman Hospital. They provided loving professional care for her during the later years of life.
