Obituary

Elizabeth Jane Graves Gabe, age 95 passed away peacefully December 25, 2015 in Odessa, Washington. She was born on May 19, 1920 in O'Neill, Nebraska, the daughter of William Brown Graves and Julia Ann (Buckley) Graves. She is survived her brother Howard Graves of Sioux City, Iowa, daughters Karen (Ron) Baumgartner of Fraser, Michigan and Cheryl (Neil) Jeske of Odessa, Washington. Three grandchildren-Lanae (Chuck) Carper, of Odessa, Michael (Becky) Jeske ,of Olympia Kimberly (Devin) Ryan, of Odessa and 3 great-grandchildren, Sophia, Harvin and Harley. Also many nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth lived in O'Neill, NE until she graduated from High School. She then attended the Grand Island Business College, at Grand Island, NE. In February 1940 she accepted a position with the Navy Department in Washington, DC. In 1947 she followed her Navy boss to Washington State University (then College) to work as his secretary. She held several positions in administration at WSU and retired in 1983.

She married Leslie Edward Gabe on February 21, 1948 at the then Greystone Presbyterian Church in Pullman. They raised their daughters in Pullman.

Since retiring she has done extensive traveling throughout United States and Europe. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. She was an active volunteer at the Pullman Regional Hospital, Pullman Senior Center, the Council on Aging and the Whitman County Genealogy Society and was on the Statesman's Condo Association board where she lived prior to moving to Odessa in December of 2012.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Les and sister Genevieve Scott.

Services will be held in Odessa, at Heritage Church on Saturday, Jan 2, 2015 at 2:00. There will also be a service in Pullman, Washington on Thursday, January 7, 2015 at 2:00 at the Pullman Senior Center. A private burial will precede the service at the Pullman Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center or Shriners Hospital. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman has been entrusted with the arrangements.
