Obituary

Elza Geraldine Gass, longtime Colfax resident, passed away September 30, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 79. Funeral Services will be Friday, October 10th at 1:00 pm in the chapel of the Corbeill Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will follow in the Colfax Cemetery. Viewing for Elza will be on Thursday and Friday at the funeral home.

She was born August 7, 1946 in Gooding, Idaho to Elzia and Ethel Thomason Rodden and lived on a farm in Southern Idaho until she was six years old and the family moved into Gooding where Elza attended school. When she was 16, they moved to Colfax where her dad had taken a job.

Elza worked as a waitress and car hop at the A & W Drive-In in Colfax as a young woman. She also was a proud mother to her daughter Tracy. She met DeWayne Gass one day at work and after a short courtship they married on June 10, 1966. He became a father to Tracy and they were later blessed by the births of three additional daughters, Dianna, Tammy and Mindy. DeWayne was surrounded by the love of his girls and Elza kept very busy as a mother and homemaker; the center of their family. She liked to sew and crochet and she always tended a large garden. With four daughters at home; it wasn't long before Elza found herself in charge of Campfire groups and other activities that revolved around her family.

She and DeWayne were members of the Palouse Hills Muzzleloaders, attending black powder rendevous during the summer, as well as members of Cowboy Action groups where each shared their love of cowboy artisan shooting. Elza was lovingly given the nickname "Wrong Eye Geri" by many in the group because of her style of shooting. If DeWayne wasn't careful, she could out-shoot him on any given day. They loved traveling around the region to attend different functions with these groups. They also were members of the Eagles Lodge in Colfax.

Elza is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, DeWayne, at their Colfax home; by her four daughters; Tracy Corneil, Spokane, Dianna Faye (Steve) Proctor, also of Spokane, Tammy Irene (Chris) Roberts of Dusty and Mindy Jo (Michael) Muglia, Spokane; by 17 grandchildren of whom she was so proud; 3 great-grandchildren; and by 2 great-great-granddaughters; and by her sister Lorna Lee, Colfax, and brother Larry Rodden of Petaluma, CA. She was preceded in death by three grandchildren; Imelda, Innocent, and William; by her sister Gaylene, and by her parents.
