IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Emma Lou
Meyer
November 30, 1933 – June 23, 2025
Emma Lou Meyer: November 30, 1933-June 23, 2025
With full hearts and deep gratitude for her remarkable life, we share the peaceful passing of our beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma, and sister, Emma Lou Meyer. She left us on June 23rd, 2025 at Pullman Regional Hospital, in Pullman, Washington, at the age of 91. Emma Lou was born on November 30, 1933, in the Bald Butte area near Colton, Washington to John and Bertha (Keller) Becker. As the tenth of fourteen children, she understood the importance of family from an early age. When her mom passed away in 1951, Emma Lou was just 17. Despite being one of the younger siblings, she stepped into a caregiving role with quiet strength and grace, helping to care for the younger children still at home. Guided by love, faith, and a deep sense of responsibility, she supported her family through a time of great loss, embodying the heart of a nurturer long before becoming a mom herself. Emma Lou graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Colton in 1951 and continued to be a pillar of support for her family until she married her high school sweetheart, James F. "Jim" Meyer, on May 17, 1955. Together, they embraced a life of farming and built a life rooted in hard work, love, and faith while raising their three children on the family farm. Despite the busy life that came with farming, Emma Lou always put family first. Sundays were special, set aside for time together. She and Jim loved those days, whether they were having a picnic, visiting with friends and neighbors, playing cards, or in later years enjoying a round of golf. Those simple moments, filled with laughter and love, were some of her happiest, just being with the people she cared about most. In 1992, Emma Lou and Jim moved into Colton, where they remained deeply connected to their family and community. She had a natural gift for nurturing, whether it was through her beautiful garden, the warmth of a hand-stitched quilt, or the aroma of a home cooked meal at family gatherings. She also worked for several years at Patt's Garden Center in Clarkston, Washington where her love for plants and people blossomed. A devoted member of St. Gall's Catholic Church, Emma Lou was active in the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters. Emma Lou, along with her sister Joanne and longtime friend Monica, served hot lunch to the students of Guardian Angel – St. Boniface School twice a month for many years. Her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her in all she did. She was a passionate fan of the Washington State Cougars and rarely missed a football or basketball game, proudly supporting the teams for more than 50 years as a dedicated member of the Cougar Club. Emma Lou's legacy lives on in the family she cherished. She is survived by her children Chris Meyer (Chris Ruark), Kipp Meyer (Holly Landkammer), and Valerie Warren (Ron); her grandchildren Jackie Meyer, Kelsey Meyer, Zac Zwerneman, Cody Meyer (Alice Goulet), Rachel Meyer, and Ryan Nicholson; and her great-granddaughters, Sadie Jean Meyer and Eleanor June Meyer. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister Joanne Dahmen and sister-in-law Shirley Heitstuman, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents, John and Bertha; her brothers, Jim, Rich, Ernie, Jack, and Mark; her sisters, Kathleen, Edith, Leona, Francis, Betty, Pauline, and Mary; her daughter-in-law, MaryJean; and her granddaughter, Theresa. Emma Lou leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love, generosity, and quiet strength. She taught us by example how to care deeply, give selflessly, and find joy in the everyday blessings of life. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, at St. Gall's Catholic Church in Colton, Washington. Interment will follow at St. Gall Catholic Cemetery. Corbeill Funeral Home, Pullman, WA has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorials can be made to Guardian Angel St. Boniface Catholic School or Colton EMT in Colton, Washington.
