IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eric F.
Maceachern
September 23, 1949 – October 12, 2025
Eric Franklin MacEachern, 76, died October 12, 2025, surrounded by family at Bishop Place in Pullman WA. Cremation has taken place. Eric was born in Lynn, MA on September 23, 1949, to Eunice Pearl (Keller) and Earl Franklin MacEachern. He was the oldest of their four children.
Eric's first marriage came with a family of 3: Christopher, Summers Dawn, and Stacy. They were joined by sisters, Hailey Eloise in 1982 and Sarah Elizabeth in 1984. Although the marriage ended, Eric maintained a life-long relationship with them all. In 1994, Eric met Lynn (Lynda) Mineur of Moscow, ID and her son, Benjamin. This brought the circle of children he loved to 6. Lynn and Eric married on May 30, 1998. They made their home in Orofino, ID until 2025 when Eric's health required a move to Pullman, WA.
Eric graduated from Pinkerton Academy, Derry NH, in 1967. He attended the US Coast Guard Academy and University of New Hampshire. He graduated from the University of Idaho with a bachelor's degree in Sociology in December 2001.
Eric settled in Idaho's lower Salmon River area in 1973 where he worked as a shepherd and gypo-logger. A logging accident in November 1980, resulted in the loss of his right leg above the knee and a significant career change. Eric joined the Idaho Department of Corrections as a correctional officer in January 1985 at their facility in Orofino, ID. He promoted to Deputy Warden of Security in 1995 and retired as Deputy Warden of Programing in 2011. He received the Idaho State Board of Correction's Life Savings Medal and Citation Bar in 1991. He received the Idaho Correctional Association's highest honor, The Feldner Award, in 2012, for "his career long efforts to protect the people of Idaho by providing offenders with opportunities to change". Eric was proud of his work with therapeutic communities and of his efforts to assist those serving life sentences to become productive citizens behind bars.
Eric was active in the community life of Orofino, serving as a girls' softball umpire when his daughters were young and later at the Lifeline Food Pantry and on the Clearwater Memorial Public Library Board of Directors. He completely supported and actively partnered with Lynn in her service through the Orofino Rotary Club.
Eric treasured his time with his children and grandchildren, including visiting Sarah in Ecuador in 2004, and Hailey in Moldova in 2006. He enjoyed reading, sailing, tent camping with Lynn at Pardee, riding his bike, playing the Native American flute, and any time spent with his dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Nancy MacEachern. He is survived by his wife, of Pullman, WA; children: Christaphor (Cheryl) Reiner, Clover, SC; Summers Dawn (Layne) Crea, Meridian, ID; Stacy (Mark) Anderson, Cottonwood, ID; Benjamin Gimbel, Astoria, OR; Hailey (Adam) Bailey, Oakdale, MN and Sarah (Daniel) Genua, Silver Spring, MD. Nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren called him Poppie and 2 grandchildren, Bethany and Jack Genua, called him Grandpa. He is also survived by his brother, Gary MacEachern, Tarpon Springs, FL, sisters, Kim MacEachern, Kennebunk, MA and Shawne (Russell) Hilliard, Weare, NH and former daughter-in-law, Angela (Billy) Isbell, Grangeville, ID along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held in early November at the Moscow Cemetery in Moscow, ID, and a Celebration of Life is being planned for Monday, April 27th, 2026, in Orofino ID. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Lifeline Food Pantry, Clearwater Memorial Public Library or the library of your choice.
