Fern Enos Nafziger

Fern Enos Nafziger, 85, passed away on May 27, 2024. She was born on May 9, 1939, in Colfax, Washington to Renol and Catherine Long. She lived in Almota during her childhood and adolescence and attended the one room schoolhouse there. She then attended Colfax High School, graduating in 1957. She married Lynn Enos on March 1, 1958, and they bought a farm in Glenwood, moving there in 1961. Fern and Lynn raised their three children and farmed as partners until Lynn's death in 1994. She became a certified dialysis technician and cared for Lynn for 15 years.

Fern remarried in 2004 to Curt Nafziger and they resided in their home in Colfax until Curt's death in 2020. Fern then moved to Northern Idaho where her daughter and one of her sons live.

Fern was an incredible artist, talented in many disciples. She learned how to weave wheat from studying books and built a successful business that received national acclaim, including having a piece of her artwork in the Smithsonian Christmas Tree Ornament collection. In later years, she enjoyed quilting, putting together original pieces, and taking the time to do each stitch by hand. She was a 4-H leader and sewing instructor for many years. She was also well known for her elaborate and beautiful garden displays, and she loved to provide food for her family from her garden.

Fern was greatly involved in the First Baptist Church in Colfax, including church renovations and the building of the Family Center. She also went on mission trips, worked in the Colfax Food Pantry, and participated in and often led many ministries at the church. The most important thing in Fern's life was her relationship with Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her sister, Julie Rentz, in Sherwood Park, Alberta, her three children, David Enos in Colfax, Washington, Bryan Enos in Hayden, Idaho, and Christine Stierwalt in Post Falls, Idaho, as well as 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four stepchildren, Dan Nafziger, Mike Nafziger, Lana Mason, and Leanne Tucker whom she dearly loved. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Colfax Food Pantry and the First Baptist Church in Colfax.

Following the graveside service, a celebration of life luncheon will be provided at the Colfax First Baptist Church, Friday June 14 12:30 pm. All who knew and loved Fern are welcome.
