Fidel Moises Reyes, 89, quietly passed away on June 16, 2011. Fidel was born May 28, 1922 in Colon, Cuba to Juaquin and Ana Josefa Reyes. He lived in Cuba until 1965, when he, his wife Josefina, and son, Denny emigrated to Colfax to be reunited with his older children. In 1962, Fidel sent his children, Audie, Evy, and Juan to the US through the Peter Pan Project, where Catholic Churches were sponsoring Cuban children to come, fleeing the Communist oppression in Cuba.
Fidel was always a hard worker, providing for his family from the age of 11. He was a gentleman farmer, gardener, and handyman and devoted to his family. He loved music and was constantly whistling or singing an original song. He had a special way with the residents of St. Ignatius Manor, who lovingly called him "Ray".
Fidel is survived by his wife of 65 years, Josefina, of Colfax; children, Audie Guidi of Colfax, Evy Miller of Selah, WA, Juan Reyes of Wheatland, WY, Denny Reyes of LaFayette, GA, and Joey Owen of Marysville, WA; his sister, Melida Reyes of Havana Cuba; and brother, Domingo Reyes of El Monte, CA.
The family would like to thank all the staff of the Courtyard and Whitman Care Center for their wonderful care.
