Florence L. Broderick, 94, of Pullman our "Cookie Grandma" passed away Dec. 10, 2018 at Bishop Place Assisted Living in Pullman, WA. Florence was born May 10, 1924 in Bossburg, WA to Ole & Lena Peterson. The family moved to Colville, WA when she was three where she grew up and attended school. Florence graduated from Colville High School in 1942. She moved to Spokane and attended Telegraph School and worked at the Ft. George Wright Signal Center as a teletype operator, later transferring to Geiger Field. She married Robert Keough USNR on Aug. 14, 1943 and in September of 1944 Robert died while in flight over the Pacific Ocean during WWII. On May 16, 1947 Florence married Robert W. Broderick in Spokane, WA where they made their home until moving to Pullman in 1963. It was during this period of her life that Florence became a devoted wife, mother and homemaker raising their four children. In 1970 she found herself raising the family by herself following Robert's death due to a sudden heart attack. Florence worked at Crown Jewelers and Charlie Brown's before going to work for the Myklebust family at Myklebust Clothing where she worked as a sales clerk through the years. Florence was an accomplished artist during her life and enjoyed drawing and oil painting. She also loved to travel and was an occasional visitor to Juneau, Alaska to visit family. Florence was a member of the Gold Star Wives of America, the Moose Lodge and the Pullman Senior Center through the years. Florence is survived by her two daughters Jean (Toby) Hinderer of Pullman & Jan (Richard) Jerue of Juneau, Alaska; her son Bob Broderick of Colton; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. In addition to her husband Robert she was preceded in death by a son Gary Broderick and her siblings. A graveside service will be held at the Pullman City Cemetery on Friday, Dec. 14, 2018 at 2:30 pm. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman, WA has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorial donations are suggested to Friends of Hospice, PO Box 484, Pullman, WA 99163.
