Florilla Sorensen, Endicott resident, passed away Wednesday morning, February 29, 2012 at the Whitman Health & Rehab Center in Colfax. She was 88. Private family graveside services will be Saturday, March 3rd in the Endicott Cemetery. A Memorial service will be at 9:00 am Saturday at the Endicott Congregational Church. Pastor Dean Ellis will officiate. A reception will follow at the church. Florilla was born March 1, 1923 in Sigurd, Utah to Ralph and Wave (Snow) Stevens. She grew up in Michigan and in the Bay area of California. Florilla married George E. Sorensen in Reno, Nevada June 29, 1940. They made their home in El Cerrito, California where Florilla kept busy as a homemaker and mother. Her husband worked as a carpenter. They moved to Redding, California in 1948 and in 1961 they moved to Canada where they lived for twelve years. They ended up in Endicott, Washington in the late 1970's and Florilla found work at several of the sororities on the WSU campus as a cook. She also cooked for the senior citizens center and for a while at the Hill-Ray Plaza in Colfax. She had many hobbies and interests and always seemed active in whichever community she lived. She was a member of the Endicott Congregational Church and even after moving to the care center was always an active participant in Bible study groups. She was an avid gardener and member of the garden club. She moved to the Whitman Health & Rehab Center in Colfax in 2009 for health reasons. Florilla's family would like to thank all of the staff there for their love and support. Florilla is survived by two children; Lonny Sorensen of Palouse and Linda Hall of Steptoe; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Virginia Sorensen of Everett, WA and Gwen Cox of Windsor, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband George in 1986, 2 brothers and 1 sister. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Whitman County Humane Society.
