The larger-than-life, fun-loving fabulous Floyd William, was born on November 2, 1924 to Leota Overstreet in Los Angeles, California and he left his earthly home on November 15, 2017 surrounded by his family and friends singing Blessed Assurance. Who he was and how he lived are more impressive than his other accomplishments, which are many.
He was raised by his beloved grandparents, David and Jenny Overstreet. After high school, he served two years in the U.S. Navy during World War II on Admiral Turner's barge during the campaign across the Pacific. Floyd's stories are as classic as he was.
He then graduated from Compton Junior College and spent time enjoying two of his great loves: automobiles and the Pacific Ocean. Upon realizing that he couldn't make a living hanging at the beach and driving cool cars, he attended L.I.F.E Bible College and graduated with his ministerial degree. He then spent more than a half century loving and serving others in evangelistic crusades and church ministry. Congregations in Southern California, Sacramento, Manteca, Santa Cruz and Colfax/Dusty, Washington were all blessed by his joyful presence. Living and loving like Jesus, and encouraging others to do so, was his hallmark. He always listened to people, never left anyone out and had a passion for serving his community.
If you look up "people-person" in the dictionary, it will say Floyd Overstreet. He was magnetic, charming, hysterically funny, handsome and, most importantly, he loved others deeply. He was happiest in a group of family and friends; the more, the merrier. A great story teller with an infectious laugh, his witty remarks were never in short supply, and his family and friends will be quoting him for decades to come.
His greatest joy and treasure was his family. He raised five daughters with his wife Jean, taking them on many adventures; whether it was a trip to the grocery store or to another country, he made everything a fun adventure. He involved himself in every detail of their lives supporting and inspiring them to love God and love people. With the birth of his first granddaughter, he became Popo and has invested 50 years of life pouring himself into the little people who were blessed to be his grandkids and great grandkids.
After the death of Jean, he married Judi Miller and they served at Dusty Church for 14 years until his retirement in 2012. Floyd enjoyed many happy times with Judi's children as well and loved them as if they were his own. He was a man of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love and shared that love with the entire community. In his last years, Floyd enjoyed the company and support of his grandson Jonathan and his family who lived in Colfax.
Jesus follower, ocean lover, life enthusiast, clothes horse and sunshine worshipper…he was a gift to the world and his passing leaves a large void in the lives of many.
Loved ones who've gone before are his wife Jean, his daughters Janelle, Jilayne and Cindy and his grandson Jason.
Those that will miss him terribly until they meet again are his wife Judi, his daughters Rhonda and Dori (William), 16 grandkids, and 8 great grandkids along with his step-daughter Lori (Vic) and step-son Lance (Annette). They will carry his love with them and pass it on for generations to come.
