Francis "Frank" William Holland, Jr. passed away peacefully on April 28, 2014 at Colonial Vista Rehab in Wenatchee, Washington. He was 85. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday July 7, 2014 at the former Community Bible Church (now Catalyst Church) in Colfax.
He was born on June 22, 1928 to Francis William and Mildred Mae (Blakely) Holland in Clarkston Washington. He attended first grade in Hood River, Oregon where his father was a barber at the time. They returned to Clarkston where he graduated from high school in 1946. He then went on to attend the Bible Institute of Los Angeles where he met Hulda Woelk who became his wife on June 24, 1949 at Newport, Washington.
He was working for the railroad in Eltopia when his daughter Marjorie (Margie) was born. Looking for work, the family went to Pomona, California where he worked for Cadillac delivering auto parts. Through DeVry Technical Institute, he became certified as a radio and TV repairman. Daughter Naomi was born at this time.
Feeling a bit homesick, the family returned to Colfax where Frank started working for Neill Furniture where he was employed for the next 22 years. Daughters Frances, Eunice and Doris were all born here in Colfax. During those years, he joined the Odd Fellows Lodge and served as the State Grand Master from June 1972 until June 1973. He left Neill Furniture and went to work for Bailey's Furniture in Pullman until they closed their doors. He then went to work for the Colfax Grange Supply where his first job was to help clean up ash from Mt. St. Helens eruption in 1980.
After several years at the Grange, he and Hulda moved to Clatskanie, Oregon where he managed Richardson's Furniture Store. His final position was as a security guard for the Wauna Lumber Mill between Clatskanie and Astoria, Oregon. He was there for several years until Hulda passed away in August 1997. In November 1998 he married longtime friend Fay Bowers and they lived in East Wenatchee until her death in August 2013.
Frank is survived by his five daughters Marjorie Osterbauer of Sequim; Naomi Daubert of Colfax; Fran Rice of Hermiston; Eunice Coker of Colfax and Doris Tate of Avinger, Texas; fourteen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren.
