Obituary

Our brother Frank Eldridge Rehwaldt, age 64, sadly passed away, suddenly and unexpectedly on March 26, 2025, in Pullman Washington.  Frank will be missed by his partner Alan Campion of 31 years and by a multitude of family and friends far and wide. So many are shocked and grieving the sudden loss of this gentle spirit, caring soul and creative man.

Frank was born the third child of seven children on July 27,1960 in Omaha, Nebraska while his dad was stationed at Offutt AFB.

Being an Air Force family brought with it the reality of making many moves. From Nebraska they were off to Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL. These were turbulent years that saw the Civil Rights movement and the beginning of war in Vietnam.  The next move took them to Washington, DC after which they were deployed to Okinawa, Japan where their Air Force Colonel father went off to fly planes on active duty. By this time there were six children and they all thrived in the warm tropical climate. He had many happy memories of those days spent on the island.

After their time in paradise ended they were off to Austin, Texas followed by Scott AFB in Illinois. Their final duty station brought them to Pullman, WA where "Colonel Bob" served as the Commandant of the WSU Air Force ROTC.  Driving up the Lewiston grade toward Pullman on his 14th birthday, Frank clearly couldn't imagine why his parents would choose to settle amid the beautiful yet sparsely populated Palouse hills. He had expected giant evergreen trees and mountains which was his vision of how the state would look.

Moving around the globe as a military brat gave Frank an international view of the world. Because he lived abroad, Frank was never afraid to imagine what was on the other side of the horizon, just waiting to be discovered and explored. Although he settled into life in Pullman, which became the family home for the next 50 years, he could never forget being drawn to other excitements from afar.

He attended Pullman High School, graduating in 1978. He excelled in academics and was a member of the swim team. He became involved in drama, swimming, Young Life and the model United Nations becoming a well rounded and well-loved friend to many. He celebrated in making others laugh, he was silly and quirky with a fast mind and unique sense of humor.

After graduation he attended the University of Washington becoming a member of the TKE house, ROTC, and crew team.

It was not until he transferred to UCLA Film School in Los Angeles in 1980 that he really   found his niche and the love of the work that would carry him through the many years to come.

Before moving to London, Frank resided in Los Angeles, California following his college graduation. He worked on multiple reality television shows throughout the nation. See his body of work at: https://www.linkedin.com/in/frank-rehwaldt-0051737/details/experience/

Initially he worked as a paper based script doctor, a role that subsequently extended to him being employed to review actual film from the George Lucas studio prior to their public release. This work started in LA but then Schindler's List took him to London where he met a certain newly qualified primary care physician - one Dr. Alan Campion.

His career at this time was rapidly evolving, leading him to work on the first Big Brother USA series before transferring to work on the second UK series, fully immersed in the birth of Reality TV genre.   He subsequently spent the following years working in both Europe and the US on film and TV projects, even writing a script for the movie "Deadbolt" starring Justine Bateman that was released on video in 1992. He had a long-standing connection to Grace and Vicky at Stranger than Fiction which required him to visit both Edinburgh and Cannes Film Festivals (though not, you must understand, for anything other than purely business reasons).

Frank and Alan learned Spanish together and jointly purchased their flat in Sitges, Spain south of Barcelona. Although he loved traveling throughout Spain and Europe, he never lost contact with his family in the USA where he remained in communication with them and visited as often as possible.

While living in the UK he was adopted and loved by Alan's family and was instrumental in helping care for his mother-in-law Shiela after Alan's dad Alfred's passing in 2018.

Frank lived in south-east London with Alan for over 30 years before returning to Pullman in 2023 to assist Laura and brother Eric (who had also recently returned with his family) in caring for their mother Miriam who had moved into Regency Senior Living. The skills and care he brought stimulated her heart and mind through frequent visits during the day and evenings. Their time spent together included watching movies and art reviews which helped to connect her with the past and present. They would reminisce together recalling her long and rich life. He helped to organize family get togethers over the holidays and for Miriam's birthday. His unique style brought fun and laughter to every gathering.

He was preceded in death by his father Colonel (Ret) Robert J. Rehwaldt and brother LTC )Ret) Robert J. Rehwaldt II.

Frank will be missed terribly by his family. He is survived by his mother Miriam Rehwaldt, Pullman, WA; his partner Dr. Alan Campion, London, England; brothers Eric (Jeanne), Pullman WA; David (Darlene), Maple Valley, WA; Daniel (Rachel), Nine Miles Falls, WA; and Christopher (Marcella), Pullman, WA; as well as 20 nieces and nephews and their families: Travis, Cassidy and Amy Rehwaldt; Lesli Rehwaldt; Danielle Anderson, and Jordan & Jon Rehwaldt; Renee Boyd; Brian Beason, Alissa Peronto; Evangeline, Bradley, Julia, and Peter Rehwaldt; Anna Morgan; Matteo, Lucas and Ginevra Rehwaldt along with 15  great nieces and nephews.  Frank is especially missed by Kai, the mini-goldendoodle he shared with Laura and Jaxon, Eric's family's Pomeranian.
